- I'd describe that differently...
-
- Having spent several years perusing alt.aquaria and maintaining several
- tanks of fish, I can report that an all-too-common alt.aquaria event is
- "My fish spawned, so I turned off the UGF. What to do with little fish?"
- In most cases the fish mostly die, as might be expected.
-
- This sounded like chapter 379 of that story. I don't know why so many people
- react to fish spawning by killing the filter, but they do. I'm happy to hear
- that this is not the case for you.

-
- While a majority of the water will be going through the open slots, leaving
- the UGF on will maintain some circulation through the remaining gravel if it
- is not clogged; This will help prevent it from dying off.
-
- I'd still recommend pulling the gravel on the turned off side,
- though that will be less of a problem with other filtration functioning.

-
- I'd recommend putting a rock in; A slate shingle would be perfect.
