- Summary: Anyone have experience using mercury vapor lighting for reef tanks?
- Keywords: marine reef lighting
-
- Has anyone tried using mercury vapor lights for a reef tank? I notice that
- HQ (a building supply warehouse place), has 175 W lights meant for outdoor
- lighting on sale for < $30. I have a 20 H tank with 45 lbs of live rock.
- Currently it is lit with 4 20 W flourescents, 2 Chroma 50's, an Actinic 03 and
- an Agrolite (wide spectrum plant bulb).
-
- According to Moe, MV has an acceptable spectrum, but not as high lumen output
- as MH. It looks like MV gives about the same lumens/watt as fluorescents. So
- if I use a 175 W MV and two 20 W Actinics over my tank, I'll have the
- equivalent of 10 20 W fluorescents! Is there anything wrong with this
- picture?
