- Well, I have a couple of things that might help in the future
- for you (since I am sure you're fish are either recovered or
- dead by now, thats the problem with asking for help over the net).
- First, never use medicine without checking every day on progress.
- In other words, do not leave for the weekend after medicating your
- tank. Better to use the medicine after you get back. This is in part
- because:
- Second, Methelyne Blue (and most medicines)can have a negative
- effect on the water chemistry of your tank by killing off the
- boilogical activity in it. This can cause ammonia/nitrite etc
- to build up faster than you'd believe unless you measured it
- yourself. And for a freshwater fish, angels are pretty sensitive
- to these changes.
- I'm not terribly sure why the pH changed so rapidly in your
- tank, as you were away and couldn't have been overfeeding them
- then. Ussually when pH goes down like that it indicates too
- much dirt in the tank, and a good cleaning is in order.
- In closing, I hate to use medicines in my tanks, and absolutely
- avoid it whenever possible. Of course, I have a 10g I can use
- for a hospital tank if necessary. They really screw with the
- chemistry, and can have some VERY bad consequences. But if it
- has to be done, test for ammonia/nitrite/nitrate every other
- day at the least, keep a close eye on the pH, follow the direct-
- ions to the letter, and be prepared to do water changes frequently.
- I hape your fish survived.
