  20. ...actually, there were two phobos craft, and one was accidently
  21. disabled by its controllers (I don't remember the details offhand, but
  22. it was something like you describe.)  The second craft successfully
  23. (and functioning) made it to Mars, and then whatever happened to it
  24. happened.
