  31.     K-2; the alleged alien base in the Plumas National Forest is
  32. branded a hoax by default when the recorded radio transmission is
  33. found to be a copy of a tape which was available in bookstores
  34. across the country.

  44.     From the moment I became aware of the Roswell case I have
  45. maintained an ongoing interest in crashed ufos, direct contact,
  46. and abductions. I tend to be more open to statements than some,
  47. taking an innocent until proven guilty attitude, rather than the
  48. more adversarial "show me" stance. ( I am not from Missouri ).
  49. This means I listen to everything. I save everything. I cross
  50. index everything. But I challenge very little. The jury remains
  51. out until something is produced which can withstand the
  52. scientific method, or is good enough to go before a courtroom
  53. judge. The result is a very large "wait and see" file, and
  54. occasionally a solidly closed case.

  56.     My wait and see attitude combined with a healthy dose of dumb
  57. luck has permitted me to move the K-2 report squarely from the
  58. wait and see file into the closed section. Cross indexed under
  59. HOAX.

  61.     I have closely monitored the netmail concerning the K-2
  62. report since the story first broke in June. Direct e mail
  63. with the spokesman for the Phoenix Project and conversations with
  64. other interested parties have consumed a sizeable portion of my
  65. storage space. Yet I remained unwilling to send the Phoenix
  66. Project the money it desired for an original copy of the reports.

  68.     Conversations with David Brune led to an arrangement for him
  69. to send me his copy of the K-2 report along with a copy of the
  70. taped radio transmission which led the Phoenix Project to
  71. investigate the K-2 site to begin with. I received the packet in
  72. early October and was surprised to find the contents of the tape
  73. familiar to me.

  75.     It should be noted that the tape received from David is
  76. labeled K-2 Radio Transmission Monaural (58:20) and was associated
  77. with a descriptive paper noting its origin having been recorded
  78. on June, 5, 1989 at 0200 PDT from shortwave frequency 16.222
  79. Megahertz at Forbestown, California. A note  from the technical
  80. data states that "Oscilloscope observation of the recorded signal
  81. reveals the presence of pulsed digital information impressed on
  82. the predominant analog audio signal components". It then goes on
  83. to say that "This digital data may be encrypted".

  85.     This description of the K-2 radio transmission is
  86. inconsistent with my own findings. The actual contents of the K-2
  87. tape are a monaural reproduction of a tape which I purchased
  88. several years ago from a local bookstore. I am happy to say that
  89. after some digging in my garage I was able to locate my STEREO
  90. commercial production tape, and that it is still in good
  91. condition. My own tape is labeled ASTRAL SOUNDS and was
  92. copyrighted 1973 by The American Research Team. The tape was
  93. distributed under license by POTENTIALS UNLIMITED, INC.
  94. Potentials Unlimited marketed a wide variety of self help/self
  95. hypnosis/subliminal message tapes in the late eighties. Their
  96. products were available in the big chain bookstores such as
  97. Waldons and B Daltons. The original intent of the ASTRAL SOUNDS
  98. tape was to synchronized sound with brain wave frequencies for some
  99. interesting effects during listening/meditation.

  101.     Both tapes have been donated to Paranet for the listening
  102. pleasure of serious researchers. If you have been considering
  103. purchasing ANYTHING from the PHOENIX PROJECT. I strongly advise
  104. you to reconsider.
