  22. MacNeil/Lehrer said tonight the White House will discuss serious action for
  23. Somalia tomorrow.

  25. Please call the White House Comment Line--202-456-1111, between 9am
  26. and 5pm Eastern time, tomorrow.

  28. Or fax any time (starting tonight) at 202-456-2461.

  30. Please urge massive increases in food aid and medical supplies.  Remember,
  31. even Mohamed Sahnoun said things were getting better since the aid increased,
  32. despite the looting.  And, he said the amount now being delivered is
  33. 30,000 tons a month.  60,000 tons a month are needed, so there is plenty
  34. of room for improvement there.

  36. The main topic of discussion will be military intervention.  I plan to urge
  37. increased UN troops, deployed swiftly.  I think that insofar as outside
  38. military force can cause some problems, UN troops are less provocative than
  39. US marines.

  41. I have to say that the Somalis in the US to whom I have talked==the
  42. Somalia Relief Association in Houston, and Save Somalia in Atlanta,
  43. strongly support military intervention.

  45. On the M/L News Hour, the former US Ambassador to Somalia, Crigler,
  46. said "the American people have shown that they favor helping Somalia."
  47. It's important that we continue to show this support.

  49. Hope everybody will take the time to make the quick phone call or
  50. send a one-paragraph fax.

  52. Thanks so much.  Events seem to have shown that the online community
  53. has made a big difference for Somalia--I hope we can act in great
  54. numbers tomorrow and perhaps get some really helpful action out of the
  55. White House.
