- But since doing the reclaim while MX is up is the standard way the system works,
- it'd be nice if the other components of MX were aware of this and tolerant of
- it. Perhaps a lock could be used for access to the file? That way, the router
- could lock it exclusive and spawn the convert/reclaim, so that everyone else
- would wait for it rather than dying. It's real frustrating to lose a message
- because when you finished it and sent it, the mailer died.
-
- Also, there's a set of circumstances (see the VMS 5.4-3 release notes) in which
- convert/reclaim is very unsafe. Does anyone know if MX is in danger from this?
- If so, I may just follow Hunter and George's lead and do the convert with MX
- down. It'd be a pain though.
-
- This hasn't happened to me, but then, I just installed MX today. :-) I've had
- other mailers die on me, and I hate it.
-
- BTW, while I'm here, I'm a little unclear on when you need to shutdown and
- restart MX or just reset it when you change things from MCP. Does it always
- require a shutdown and restart, or just a reset, or what?
