  22. But since doing the reclaim while MX is up is the standard way the system works,
  23. it'd be nice if the other components of MX were aware of this and tolerant of
  24. it. Perhaps a lock could be used for access to the file? That way, the router
  25. could lock it exclusive and spawn the convert/reclaim, so that everyone else
  26. would wait for it rather than dying. It's real frustrating to lose a message
  27. because when you finished it and sent it, the mailer died.

  29. Also, there's a set of circumstances (see the VMS 5.4-3 release notes) in which
  30. convert/reclaim is very unsafe. Does anyone know if MX is in danger from this?
  31. If so, I may just follow Hunter and George's lead and do the convert with MX
  32. down. It'd be a pain though.

  34. This hasn't happened to me, but then, I just installed MX today. :-) I've had
  35. other mailers die on me, and I hate it.

  37. BTW, while I'm here, I'm a little unclear on when you need to shutdown and
  38. restart MX or just reset it when you change things from MCP. Does it always
  39. require a shutdown and restart, or just a reset, or what?
