- Perhaps the most successful environment organization out there is The
- Nature Conservancy. Although they don't complete avoid government (in
- particular, they partner with them when convenient) they function
- primarily through the normal means of property rights. The Nature
- Conservancy quite simply purchases land to protect wildlife and
- ecosystems, using privately donated funds. Ducks Unlimited, another one
- of the biggies, does similar things for wetlands. In other words, there
- are plenty of examples out there of where the private property model is
- working.
