  26. Evolution has provided humans with natural heirarchical mechanisms 
  27. to escape pointless loops like this this one.  For example, if these 
  28. people were standing face to face, they would have visual clues about 
  29. each other which would enable them to sort themselves into some sort
  30. of loose ranking.  Any debate which arises would be quickly settled, 
  31. and from that point onwards, the geekier members of the group would 
  32. tend to defer to the less geeky ones.  Of course, these particular 
  33. specimens clearly represent the lowest common denominator.  In any 
  34. natural setting, they would occupy the lowest ranks of the heirarchical 
  35. structure and much of their effort would be spent attempting to curry
  36. favor from their superiors.  One can only assume that this is actually 
  37. the case, and that these specimens use their computers to escape the
  38. unpleasantness of their "real" worlds as often as possible.

  40. Unfortunately (for them and for us), this escape is but an illusion.  
  41. Whereas Usenet is a miracle to people possessing good communication 
  42. skills, it is a trap for losers, because it deprives them of any natural 
  43. way out of the pointless debate loops which they fall into so easily.  
  44. As many of us have realized, the Usenet environment is intrinsicly dry 
  45. and blind and it is up to its inhabitants to injecting deeper meanings 
  46. and feelings into their words and arguments in order to accomplish 
  47. anything worthwhile, be it art, debate, or pure transformation of 
  48. information.  But those who are deficient in verbal and mental skills 
  49. can only exchange clublike blows with with eachother ad nauseum.

  51. No matter.  The plight of the weak minded is of no consequence to the 
  52. rest of us.  They gravitate towards eachother very nicely.  Just shut 
  53. the closet door on 'em and tiptoe back to the party.
