-
- we traveled to the edge of the city,
- way out past 10,000,000,000th street;
- close to the end of the world.
-
- we dodged past tumbling cars that
- had flung themselves off the road,
- and hopped from slab to slab of
- sidewalk fragment, sending each
- spinning off at odd angles as we
- leapt from one to the next.
-
- we ran along undulating streets past
- dissolving lawns and houses, until we
- discovered a meadow of flowers that
- expanded like fireworks.
-
- we threw ourselves down together onto
- the flickering grass, laughing as we
- rolled arm in arm down a vanishing
- hillside. when our bodies unraveled
- and intertwined, we laughed all the
- more, until tears welled in our eyes.
-
- the echoes of our laughter reverberated
- as we joined the starlit darkness.
