  19. Would you like to know why there is no such study?  Well, according to a 
  20. recent issue of Discover magazine (I can't remember the date but it deals the 
  21. issue is dedicated to the topic of sex research) There were about 3 such
  22. detailed reports that were to be conducted in the next year.  The study was 
  23. very comprehensive, and its goal was to provide a measure of the sexual
  24. activity of Americans (the last such study was conducted in the late 30's
  25. I believe, and we have been using this same data since) this way we could 
  26. not only understand American sexuall behaviour, but we would also get some
  27. clues as to how the AIDS virus is spread among sexually active people.
  28. Sounds great doesn't it?  Well, funding for the research was withdrawn all
  29. three times because of our good friend Jesse Helms.  It seems Mr Helms felt
  30. that such a study would cause people to be tolerant of homosexuals (GASP!),
  31. and it would allow gays and lesbians to take over the moral fabric of this
  32. country.  I expect as much from Mr Helms, but the rest of congress should 
  33. have let him howl and yammer, and kept up with the study.  Anyhow, I'm just
  34. paraphrasing the article, If you are interested I suggest that you read the 
  35. article for yourself.  I know it made me incensed(sp?)!

  41. You forgot one other thing:  the homosexual community has been very quick to 
  42. adapt to safe sex techniques, and the heterosexual community has done nothing
  43. more than lip service.
