  19. |Okay" thread like Mr. Starr to free and open debate.  Here's why.

  22. |description "kill" file, showing a suppressed rage and desire to "kill"
  23. |one's opponent when one, like Starr, is bested in argument.  This
  24. |suppressed rage is confirmed by the intemperate language used by
  25. |discussants like Starr.  The very title of this thread, "A Modest
  26. |Request" is an (unconscious?) reference to Jonathan Swift's "Modest
  27. |Proposal" that the children of the 17th century Irish poor be fed to the
  28. |English.  Partially Irish, I assure Mr. Starr that he will have to catch
  29. |me and (non-metaphorically) kill me first.

  31. |Discussants in the "hate speech" thread have professed dedication to
  32. |free and to open debate, even when people from Viktora's victims to Kim
  33. |Pring (harmed by Hustler) to Anita Hill (decried as a lunatic for
  34. |bringing needed information re a Supreme Court nominee to the attention
  35. |of the Senate Judiciary Committee) are all harmed.  Yet discussants
  36. |including Starr themselves feel entitled to take refuge in "kill" files
  37. |rather than participate in debate.  I suggest that no such refuge was
  38. |open to Viktora's victims, Kim Pring, or Anita Hill.

  40. |Now, "kill" files are a form of privatised censorship and they do not
  41. |use a government mechanism.  However, this is merely an example of the
  42. |libertarian illusion that if force (including the electronic,
  43. |metaphorical use of force implicit in a kill file) is deregulated and
  44. |privatised, it will disappear, and the libertarian amnesia re the social
  45. |contract that gave government a monopoly (with restrictions) on force.
