  10. Arrived a bit early at work this morning, and noted about 80' from the
  11. front gate a flock of pigeons, over 100 of them, all milling around
  12. in a circle on the grass the height of a tall man, perfectly compact,
  13. with none outside the circle.  As I made the turn on my scooter, a lady
  14. approached them, walking a large golden retrieverish dog, and the flock
  15. rose as one.  The ground beneath their feet was churned as if by a
  16. leprechuan plowing a circular path.

  18. If this behavior is common and widespread, this might offer another
  19. explanation for the crop circles attributed by the credulous to alien
  20. spacecraft.

  22. Or it may just be friendly gathering time among pigeons, though I saw
  23. in my brief passage by neither mating behavior nor cocktail glasses
  24. anywhere in evidence.
