  13. Lou Harris (the pollster) said in a recent speech that George
  14. Bush's mother has been a member of Planned Parenthood in CT
  15. for over 25 years.  This is the first I've heard this.  Given
  16. that Harris is fairly reputable and the speech was on NPR (at
  17. the National Press Club, which also menas it was probably on
  18. C-SPAN), I suspect it is true.

  20. This lead me to think.  We all know about Bush flip-flop
  21. on abortion in 1980 (when picked as Reagan's VP).  We've 
  22. heard the stories that Bush was already planning to raise 
  23. taxes in 1988 when he said "Read My Lips".  We know that 
  24. Bush has never a "true believer" in the Far Right.  We know
  25. know the roumours that Barbara Bush is pro-choice (When
  26. asked specificly about this roumour by Baba Walters, Barbara 
  27. gave a vauge answer about not always agreeing with George's 
  28. positions).  We even know that one of Bush Supreme Court 
  29. appointees foted to uphold Roe-v-Wade.  (Bush was somewhat 
  30. stuck with Clarence Thomas in that he needed a black nominee
  31. (for political reasons) and the Right had been grooming Thomas
  32. for Marshall's spot).  We know that, if re-elected, will be a 
  33. "lame duck" (not have to worry about running for re-election).

  35. Which leads me to wonder if George, in his second term, will 
  36. do another flip-flop on abortion.  He won't have to worry
  37. about keeping the right wing happy.  He'll be free to do
  38. what he really believes.
