- I saw the discussion about MD disclosure and anesthsia. I think the
- poster mentioned something about drugs that cause you to forget
- what went on. Then my sister told me this story: she had a
- condition (supposedly cured now) where she had an extra nerve
- pathway to her heart. She had an "attack" where her heart rate
- went up to 300 beats per minute. When they couldn't control it
- with the usual drugs they decided to use the defibrillator (sp?)
- or "paddles". Before they did it they told her they were going
- to give her a drug so that she wouldn't remember it. They did
- and she didn't (they probably should have given some to her
- husband, too, as he was quite traumatized at watching they
- zap her 3 times...). Anyway, what's the story with these
- drugs? What was it, most likely? How do they work (not
- too technical but what part of the brain or by what chemical
- means or so they know?)? Is it possible that you might actually
- remember the incident at some point? Maybe a flashback
- kind of effect (I'd swear that 2 months after surgery I
- had flashes of having a tube down my throat...I might just
- be nuts, though..)? Is it the kind of thing experienced
- on a drug like Xanax? Do they do this alot?
