- (Must be a Weather Channel watcher....) There *are* Pacific "hurricanes" in
- the *Eastern* and *Central* Pacific (east of the date line). West of the
- date line, they are called "typhoons". In the Indian Ocean (such as the
- storm that devastated Bangladesh a year ago), they are known as "cyclones".

- I think your speculations are correct about *why* it was changed. As for
- when, the first male Atlantic storm was "Bob" in 1979. In the Eastern
- Pacific we had the first male a year earlier with "Bud" in 1978. I don't
- know about when the West Pac switched to male and female, but probably
- about the same time.
