  16. I read somewhere that the energy left in the fission products is about
  17. 0.5 percent of that produced by the reactor.  However, the fission
  18. products are somewhat hard to handle, so it is customary to let the
  19. short period, i.e. high energy emission, fission products cool before
  20. reprocessing.  Thus most of this 0.5 percent is lost.  Under present
  21. political conditions it would be foolish to try to salvage it, and
  22. it might not be worthwhile to do it even when the environmentalists
  23. come to their senses.
