- I read somewhere that the energy left in the fission products is about
- 0.5 percent of that produced by the reactor. However, the fission
- products are somewhat hard to handle, so it is customary to let the
- short period, i.e. high energy emission, fission products cool before
- reprocessing. Thus most of this 0.5 percent is lost. Under present
- political conditions it would be foolish to try to salvage it, and
- it might not be worthwhile to do it even when the environmentalists
- come to their senses.
