- the stepping you are hearing is the coarse tracking catching up with the fine
- tracking. not all players do this, but some have a limited-travel (fine)
- tracking system which is carried by the coarse tracking system. in some cases,
- the coarse system is driven by a stepper motor, and the fine system deals with
- the in-betweens.
