- In my reply to radar detector-detectors, I used "IF" (intermediate
- frequency) in place of what should have been "LO" (local
- oscillator) twice. At the leakage level I mentioned, the
- source would have to be the LO and not the desired mixdown
- product, or the IF. The remainder is correct. I think I was
- typing quickly to race a compile finishing on my machine...

- IF detection, although at a lower power, is desireable
- however, because in most cases the modulation on the carrier
- is preserved in the IF. So, if you want to determine whether
- a particular receiver is receiving YOU, look for a copy of your
- modulation in its IF leakage. This principle is used, at least, in
- military gear and has been used once (to my knowledge) to
- back up an unauthorized signal reception case in court.
