- Hi!
-
- I have a really silly question to ask, but I don't know where to
- look for it.
-
- What exactly is the difference between an RS-422A and an RS-423
- standard? Are they as close as their numbers seem to indicate?
-
- The reason I'm asking is that I read that the NeXT machine uses
- the RS-423 standard for its serial communications. The HP
- deskwriter I own uses the RS-422A standard so it can talk to
- Macintoshes. I want these two items to talk.
-
- I've been told that the new operating system for the NeXT will support
- AppleTalk without massive hardware changes, so I think (I hope) that
- a NeXT machine will be able to talk to the HP deskwriter over the
- serial connection.
-
- Any leads to the definition of the two standards is greatly
- appreciated. If anyone else is curious about the outcome, I will
- mail (or post) any replies.
-
-
- Thanx in advance!
-
- Michael
