My Eagle project, and several that followed in my troop, was in a city
park. I spoke to the head of the Dept of Parks and Recreation of my
city (Ann Arbor at the time). He gave me the following suggestion:
go to any park near your home, and figure out an improvement that could
be made to it. Write down a plan and send it to me, and if the supplies
aren't too expensive, the city will deliver them to the park.
For my project, I refurbished trails in a wooded park. The city brought
in two truckloads of woodchips, and we carried them by wheelbarrel down
the trails and spread them throughout the park. We also did some
pruning of overgrown trees, etc.
I think this is a great thread, but I do want to make one point about
the posting above regarding voter registration drives. Invariably,
registration drives are targeted torwards groups in a way that benefits
a specific political party. Democrats run drives in places like state
university campuses because they know they will probably register more
democrats than republicans. Republicans run drives in places like
nursing homes because they frequently will register more republicans
