  14. Here's what I think is a good Scoutmaster's Minute.  It was told to my
  15. father when he was a scout.  His Scoutmaster was stepping down (after      
  16. 10 or so years, I think), and on the last Troop Meeting, as a farewell
  17. address, he said this.  I am writing it as best I remember it.

  28. I AM THIRD

  30. When I entered college years ago, I had a roommate in the dorms posted
  31. a sign on the inside of the door which read, "I am third."  When I
  32. asked what this meant, he replied, "If I get through college, I'll
  33. tell you."
  34.  
  35. Well, during the four years of college, this young man studied hard
  36. and earned good grades.  All the while, however, he did not forget his
  37. fellow students who needed help, and he worked hard at his church as
  38. well.  Other students were amazed at his attitude in a cut-throat
  39. competitive school.  He was always courteous and considerate.  This,
  40. of course, made him well-respected.  And all during this time, that
  41. sign was still there:  "I am third."
  42.  
  43. Finally, a day before graduation, I asked him, "Now that we are both
  44. graduating, tell me what your sign means."
  45.  
  46. He answered, "It's very simple.  That is my guiding rule.  It is so I
  47. remember that God is first, other people come second, and I AM THIRD."
