- I was basing the 1 watt limit on a question from the 1988 Technician
- class test questions. Question 3A-12.1 states:
- What is the maximum mean output power an Amateur station is
- permitted in order to operate under the special rules for radio control of
- remote model craft and vehicles?
- The answer was one watt.
- At that time, Technician class operators were allowed maximum output
- power of 1500 watts on the 50.0-54.0 Mhz band.
- As I mentioned, these were the rules up until 1989. I haven't
- checked the current FCC regs, but assumed that the lower power rating
- for radio control was still in effect.
