  15. My '81 Plymouth Champ has been exhibiting a strange behavior.
  16. A few days back it lost power but would run fine in neutral.
  17. I died once or twice at a stop light and missed a little. I
  18. figured "Check the easy things first" and added a fuel drier
  19. (isopropal) and checked the distributer cap for water.

  21. Yesterday when I went out to go to work, the car would not start.
  22. Cranked fine, just would not fire. I checked and found no spark
  23. at the coil. Changed the coil with a spare I have. No luck.
  24. Bummed a ride to work.

  26. That evening it still had no spark. I checked to make sure the rotor
  27. was turning (timing belt & distributor shaft OK). I then took
  28. out the ignition module and checked the induction coil resistance
  29. (0.988 ohm). Then tested the module as shown in my manual with
  30. two batteries and a light bulb. At first, it checked OK. Then
  31. it seemed to quit working. I called the auto parts place and they
  32. said it cost $45.00. I decided to check it again. It tested OK
  33. for as long as I wanted to sit there tapping that contact on the
  34. battery. I put the distributor back together and the car started
  35. on the first crank. Drove around the neighborhood for about an hour
  36. with no trouble.

  38. Question: Does it sound like the ignition module is going bad or
  39. did it just have dirty contacts? Could it be something else?

  41. The car has 171K miles.
