- I have some experience in the car business, so I am speaking from that
- perspective regarding the question of paint/fabric sealant products.
-
- First of all, I don't think that there is anything magic about these products
- They are essentially car waxes and fab guards of the usual quality, backed
- up by a warranty that explains most of the cost. The cost to the dealer is
- very low, so if you figure that the manufacturer/distributor makes some
- money selling it to the dealer, the true cost to the manufacturer is super
- low (and they are making a profit). I had some exposure to Touch of Class,
- which is one of the few backed up by a lifetime warranty. I know this
- sounds impressive (they fix if car fades), but I think they are working on
- the assumption that most cars get sold in the first 3-5 years, and then
-
- the warranty remains stuffed in a drawer with the first owner. The risk
- of a claim is then pretty low. $200 is not much, if you think you need
- the peace of mind. You can add fabric protection yourself, and I think that
- if you take care of the paint (frequent washing and regular waxing), you'll
- be fine. I just don't think the products are magical. You are buying the
- warranty primarily. GM, by the way, has had some problems with paint
- quality in the past. The warranty from the wax company would give you a
- second place to go for relief if you did have a paint problem. Mull this
- all over for a bit.
