- They may not be screwing you, at least not directly(!) When the CV joint boot
- cracks the grease gets out and dirt gets in, causing very rapid wearing out of
- the joint. Replacing the boot alone would not prevent this at all, you have to
- clean out the whole thing and repack it with special grease. That can add up to
- a fair piece of change for labor alone. When the boots cracked on my old 1980
- Accord I did the job my self and found out why it costs so much. One set of these
- joints, the outboard ones I believe, can be taken apart for cleaning. The other
- cannot, so you would have to replace the joint and the halfshaft if the joint is
- too dirty or worn. I was able to wash out all the grease with solvents (it was
- not worn noticeably) and repack it, so I was lucky. If they are still using this
- design ten years later then the designers have screwed you!
