- About 2 months back. I wrote to GM's new President, John F. (Jack) Smith,
- suggesting (sort of tongue in cheek), that he get a workstation and
- follow this group. Now I did not expect he would, but someone in
- GM's Customer Service would (or should).
-
- Well, to make a long story short, GM Customer Service wrote to me,
- I wrote back, they called, and we resolved a problem we had with
- Florence's 1978 Monte Carlo in a very satisfactory manner (at
- least from our point of view, can't speak for GM).
-
- What did please me was the manner in which the whole thing
- was conducted. It was very pleasant, not the cold, aloof,
- attitude I had run across with my Buick. Speaking of that
- Buick, it dawned on me that I put 140,000 miles on the
- original engine (231 V6) and it was only taking a quart
- in about 900 - 1000 miles, not too shabby considering
- the speeds I drive at. I guess that is the same basic
- block as the 3300 V6 they have today.
-
- Well, this convinces me that GM has fixed what I always
- thought was their real problem, and J.D.Powers seems to
- be saying the quality is there, so look out Nissan, Toyota,
- Honda, et. al. If you get what you think is a raw deal
- from a GM dealer (or any dealer), let the head office know
- about it. Put yourself in their shoes - why would they
- want to have their customers turned-off. Better to get
- rid of the dealer.
-
- There is a new wind blowing through the halls of GM,
- but they call this one Jack, not Mariah :-). I wish them
- all the luck in the world.
-
- Bob.
