- I posted an article asking what disks were good for Bass a while back
- and someone recommended the CD's Produced by Telarc. I purchased the
- Telarc sampler V disc two weeks ago and it is great....and I'm not a
- classical music fanatic. I listened to it on my car audio system which
- uses two 12" subs crossed at 100Hz for Bass,....and it literaly
- Suprised me. The 20th Century Fox Composition was so full of energy
- and vibrant sound.....it really suprised the SH*T out of me (and my
- stereo).
-
- If anyone is looking for a CD with all types of music that is recorded
- excellent and crisply reproduced.....the Telarc Sampler Disc V is for
- you.
-
- -Just dont play it with the volume up (especially when the digital
- cannons come on) and when your neighbors are sleeping.

- Most definite vote for the Michael Murray albums. I own the Encores a
- la Francais (?title) with the Poulenc Organ Concerto in G minor . As
- far as low end, this is the lowest actual music I have ever heard
- (cannons don't really count :-) ). I estimate that there is bass down
- to 15-16 Hz, and plenty of it. It is a really beautiful piece, and is
- unordinary due to the fact that it has an orchestra in conjunction with
- the organ! (VERY uncommon) The version I have is Telarc, recorded at
- the Cathedral of St. Philip in Atlanta, Ga, with the Atlanta Symphony
- Orchestra. Very impressive IMHO to demonstrate systems ( I can bounce
- small coins up and down on the roof of my car with this piece :-) )

- You are wise for looking into pipe organ music to exploit your
- woofers.
-
- If you like Telarc CD's and J.S. Bach, Michael Murray has some pretty
- good orga n recordings. Also, if you're into symphonic/organ music
- (even if you're not),
- Telarc's recording of the Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen is
- excellent.

- Telarc's 1812 is a crock. Yes, it has a deep impulse, but it's not
- very musical. Hunt down a good recording of Saint-Saens' Organ
- Symphony, and Also Sprach Zarathustra (Strauss).

- The version of Tubular Bells which was released in a 4-LP import
- package called "Boxed" has a very powerful low-bass passage in the
- middle of Side 1. I understand that it's also present in one of the
- single-CD versions of Tubular Bells (I'm not sure which one).
-
- It is not present (or was mixed at a much lower level) on the original
- LP version of Tubular Bells, and also in the CD version of the Boxed
- set.
-
- The first time I played it on my system (which has a Fried T subwoofer)
- I thought an earthquake was in progress. Seriously - it shook the
- room.

- If you can find the Canadian recording of Albinoni's Adagio recorded by
- the Toronto Chamber Orchestra you will fully exploit your new speakers'
- bass response. I would suggest removing all the breakables from the
- room too! :) The title is "Digital Delights", I cant remember the
- conductor or label. I found this thing in the local public library but
- have been unable to find it in a record store. Another one you might
- try is the Telarc 'Star Tracks II' disc. Track 2 is music from "Back
- to the Future". You will find some interesting orchestral horseplay in
- this one as well. I don't know if they go down to 32Hz, but they
- certainly will satisfy anyone's yearning for deep, powerful
- *BASS*!!!!!

- I don't know if you are into lp's or not but I just got "Fiesta" on
- Reference Recordings. It has a fantastic bass drum that is so real it
- is sitting in the room with you. Who said turntables have no bass. This
- one is amazing. My spectrum analyzer has the last band at 31.5Hz and
- it is below that. It is classical type music so if you don't like
- that, I withdraw the suggestion. Rock and Jazz usually don't get that
- low. I have a couple of pipe organ cd's that get down there too but I
- don't have the names with me. If you get something recorded at Davies
- Hall in San Francisco on that pipe organ, you can be assured of getting
- into some low bass.

-
- The disc name is Encores a la Francaise, I believe- it was recorded
- here in Atlanta with the ASO in the Cathedral of St. Phipip right down
- on Peachtree St.
-
- This disc has some tones on it that must be down in the 16-18 Hz range,
- at near 0 dB level (at least in comparison to the other sounds on the
- track). It goes low, clean and LOUD. Especially at about 13:00 or so
- into the track.(the track is 25 min. long, with one stretch at about
- 23:55 or so with a 1 min 5 second steady 25 Hz pedal tone!!! Talk about
- heating up amps and subwoofers!)

- LFO is a group hailing from Sheffield England (an area of the UK famous
- for its electronic minimalist sound). To put it in a nutshell, LFO
- sound like Kraftwer k except they tend to use a lot of BASS in their
- recordings, hence their name :
-
- L ow
- F requency
- O scillation
-
- If you like Kraftwerk, then most likely you will like LFO too. They
- are on the Tommy Boy label, and the cover of their album depicts a
- warped picture of a man-figure against a spiral background. Their only
- album FREQUENCIES can be found in most any music store.

- I agree! I just picked it up on a CD shopping spree over the past
- weekend. It must be astounding on a system with a subterranean bass
- response. I am enjoying this one a lot.
