- I have ordered from J&R Music World for 10 years. I've ordered
- CD players, tape decks, receivers, speakers, word processors,
- car stereos, actually quite a bit now that I think of it.
- Everything has always been completely satisfactory, and I would
- not hesitate to order from them again.
-
- I do have one caveat, however. I have noticed that in the last
- couple of years their quoted prices have gone up, to the point that
- often I can beat their price locally. The first time I pointed this out
- they immediately lowered their price, and I ended up offering an
- even lower price which they accepted. Since then I have had
- to barter on every order, and have gotten prices lowered by
- 10% - 20%, pretty substantial discount from their initial
- telephone quote. The sales force is on commission, and my
- impression is there is a minimum allowed selling price and if
- an item is sold above that price the salesman increases his
- commission. If he thinks you are going to hang up without a
- sale, he will reduce the price since he has already spent time
- on the phone with you and some commission is better than no
- commission. I don't care for this practice, but I order from
- J&R anyway because I can usually get my price, and other than
- that J&R is first class in every way.

- Their phone number is 1-800-221-8180.
