  10. Greetings! I was at 'lost' as to where to put this item for discussion.
  11. MISC seemed as good as any, but I need to give a little background info
  12. first.

  14. Back when Alien3 was being hotly debated in the MOVIES list, Todd Perlmutter
  15. wrote "wouldn't Lance Hendrickson make a great Rorschach (Watchmen).  I 
  16. agreed with Todd and we have been discussing the Watchmen ever since then.

  18. THE SURVEY
  19.  
  20. The question for all of you is this: If the Watchmen made it to the 'visual
  21. medium' who would you like to see act in it?  Yes, I know this was probably
  22. discussed prior to me signing on to this discusion list, but new actors
  23. have appeared, and can be considered for the role.
  24.  
  25. Let's add a couple of twists to this survey.  Include a list of deased or
  26. elderly actors (those who would have been perfect in their prime) that you
  27. would have liked to have seen in a role.  Al, include your suggestions
  28. actors that are "far fetched" choices - Remember to justify your answers.
  29.  
  30. While, we're on the topic- Who would you like to see direct the Watchmen
  31. (same catagories as stated above apply).  And would you prefer the Watchmen as 
  32. a Movie? or TV Mini series?

  34. Todd and I have put together a list of possible actors.  They are as
  35. follows:

  37. (CA) = Current Actors, (DOA) = Dead/Older Actors (sorry couldn't resist
  38. on the DOA :) :)  ) and (FF) = Far Fetched Actors.

  40. COMEDIAN:

  42. (CA) Rutger Hauer - if you dye his hair dark, make-up job, could look
  43.                     the part, needs to lose the accent, or work on 
  44.                     developing an American accent.
  45.  
  46. (CA) Robert De Niro - After "Cape Fear" need we say more?
  47.  
  48. (CA) Randall "Tex" Cobb - The biker from Hell from "Raising Arizona"
  49.                           He looked like the Comedian there, just needed
  50.                           a hair cut.
  51.  
  52. Others: Gary Busse (sp) or Nick Nolte.

  54. DR MANHATTAN:
  55.  
  56. (DOA) Yule Brenner - Alan Moore's nodel for 'DM'.
  57.  
  58. (FF) Dolph Lundgren - More for physique that for his acting ability,
  59.                       (One can always dub a voice in :)  )

  61. Options: F/X create 'DM' like in T2.

  63. NITE OWL (DANIEL)

  65. (CA) Richard Masur - Played a govt type in "Under Fire", various other
  66.                      Average Guy roles.  He looks like Daniel.

  68. (CA) Steve Landisberg(sp) - Dietrick of "Barney Miller". Also looks like
  69.                             Daniel.

  71. (DOA) Steve Allen - About 15 years ago, he would have been perfect.

  75. (CA) Rutger Hauer - He looks the part.

  77. (CA/FF?) Patrick Swayze - After his role in "Point Break", he could do
  78.                           it.

  80. RORSCHACH

  82. (CA) Lance Hendrickson - Aliens, Alien3, also have seen him in a movie
  83.                          with red hair, and he has played 'crazies'
  84.                          before.

  86. (CA) William DeFoe - I got this idea after I saw him in "City of Fire"
  87.  
  88. (CA) name? - The actor who plad LarryDaryl & Daryl) on "Bob Newhart"
  89.              and was in "Blade Runner"
  90.  
  91. SILK SPECTRE (LAURIE)
  92.  
  93. (CA) Megan Gallagher - Rousso (sp?) of "Hill Street Blues"  She looks
  94.                        right for the part and is a good actress.
  95.  
  96. Other possiblities? - Sharon Stone and  ?? from "Total Recall".  I don't
  97.                       think they look right for the part.  But anyone
  98.                       who can make it look convincing that they are beating
  99.                       crap out of Arnold cant be all bad :)

  101. MINOR CHARACTERS:

  103. PSYCHIATRIST:

  105. (CA) John Hancock - the Black judge from "LA LAW".

  107. JANIE:

  109. (CA) Mary Elizabeth Mameno (sp) of "Abyss" and "Robin Hood".  Her
  110.                                looks are wrong for Laurie, but I think
  111.                                she would be great for Janie.

  113. DIRECTORS:
  114.  
  115. (CA) James Cameron - He can direct/write well developed strong characters
  116.                      and handle F/X effectively
  117.  
  118. (CA) Johnathan Demme - "Silence of the Lambs"
  119.  
  120. (CA) Paul Verhoven (sp) - "Total Recall" and "Robocop"
  121.  
  122. (CA/FF) Tim Burton - He maybe too dark and styliztic for some tastes.

  124. (CA/FF)Coen Brothers - "Raising Arizona" and "Barton Fink" etc. They
  125.                           could give it that "barton fink feel" :) :)
  126.                           Actually, I think they could do justice to the
  127.                           Watchmen and yet make it uniquely their own.

  129. TV OR MOVIE?

  131. Personally I would prefer a TV mini series, cause I'm afraid any movie
  132. would be chopped down to 'bare bones'

  135. Well that a start.  No **flames** for any suggestions please.  The FF
  136. category sholld give people an opportunity to promote the obscure or
  137. ricous.  ing forward to hearing other folks suggestions.
