- Become part of Pittsburgh sports history! Take part in the first women's
- Dek hockey league within the Pittsburgh city limits!
-
- Neville Dek Hockey on the South Side is very interested in starting a women's
- Dek hockey league this fall. But the managers (Mark and Rege) seem to be at
- a bit of a loss on how to tell the public about it. So I have graciously
- offered to post here for them to stir up interest.
-
- For those of you unfamiliar with the sport of Dek hockey, here is a brief
- description. If you want more information, please contact me:
-
- You DO NOT have to know how to skate to play Dek hockey. Dek hockey is played
- on a heavy plastic-like surface. It kind of looks like the playing
- surface of an air hockey game. You wear tennis shoes instead of skates,
- and you use a ball instead of a puck. The sticks have plastic blades instead
- of wood. (The wearing of helmets, gloves and pads is advised.) There are
- a few other subtle differences, I just thought I'd hit the basics here.
-
- I'll admit, my motives are somewhat selfish. I want to play Dek hockey. I
- called Nevile yesterday and asked about a women's league. Mark told me that
- I was the first (and only) woman to call and ask! He went on to say he'd
- love to start a fall women's league. He'd like to have 4-6 teams for the
- first season.
-
- Now, in this town of the 2 time Stanley Cup champions, I can't possibly be
- the only woman that wants to play hockey. So come on, call Mark or Rege at
- 481-3351 and tell them you'd like to play, too. And send me (lli+@cs.cmu.edu)
- mail.
-
- Tell your friends, spread the word. Don't worry about your skill level.
- Even if you've never played before, don't worry! Just come out and have some
- fun. The league will only come into existence is enough women show interest.
-
- To steal a phrase from a far too well known shoe company-Just do it!
