- Your description brought instantly to mind a virtually cliched scene in
- a movie. A character is in the shower merrily soaping up when an idea
- strikes. The character bolts from the shower, oblivious to the dripping
- water and soap suds, and stands at a desk or table joyously writing down
- the thought.
-
- What *I* get from the scene is a sense of the character's values.
- Preserving the idea is more important than getting the carpet wet.
- Perhaps the character even slowly sinks into a chair, writing furiously,
- becoming immersed in a state of satori, only to become aware later of
- the mess they've made.
-
- But, to more directly answer your question, I keep writing materials
- near at hand in all places in which I spend any length of time (even the
- bathroom). I also use a small tape recorder (it's perfect for those
- inspirations that strike while driving:-}). Always carry a notebook or
- pad.
