- ||I'm sorry, I missed that ruling. Can you cite the actual case which was
- ||argued which resulted in this ruling? I find it hard to believe that
- ||anyone, including the SC, can prevent any student from saying a silent
- ||prayer before a test or before lunch.
- |
- |No, the case was a school which had a speaker who said a prayer. Someone
- |objected, and made a federal case about it. The SC ruled that public
- |schools may not have prayers at their graduation as in the case. I cannot
- |cyte the case, but it wa in our local paper also.
-
- I remember very well the ruling on restricting prayer at school sponsored
- events, such as commencement. However, my question was directed to your
- claim that there was a recent SC ruling which said that no praying was
- allowed period at any time, or did I misunderstand you. Here is what you
- said, which you removed from your reponse back to me:
-
- ||Ah, but it is illegal now. Not only can the school not pay for praying
- ||at a graduation, but the SC recently ruled that no praying can take place
- ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
- ||there, regardless of funding. I'm not a christian, or in any way religious,
- ^^^^^
- ||but I think it is ridiculous for the federal government to micro-manage
- ||the actions of local schools, all the way down to what is said at graduation.
