- A moderate to severe open or closed head injury can cause major
- problems with memory & processing information. If this was a
- relative or patient of mine, I wouldwant them to be evaluated by a
- "neuro-psychologist" who actually has a Ph.D. with a major in
- neuro-psychology as opposed to clinical or ccounsreling or other
- field in psychology.
-
- If you call Dr. Sam Brinkmaan's secretary in Abilene, Texas &
- inform them what majoer city you are in or near, perhaps Dr.
- Brinkman would suggest someone and give information on the National
- Head Injury Foundation.
-
- In my experience, it takesa separate support groups for the injured
- folks and for familyfriends.
-
- A good head trauma rehabilitAtion program with prfessionals very
- competent in the rehabilitation sub-speciality of head trauma is
- important.
-
- Unfortunately, not everyone can benefit or benefit as much from
- this specific rehabilitation.Progress is often measures over months
- & years.
-
- Good luck. God bless.
-
- P.S. I'm a clinical socialworker & famility therapist with about 7
- years experience counseling head injury survivors & their
- families. The neuropschologist and the occupational therapist are
- the major folks in such rehab programs.
