  12. Excellent post!  Exactly what I had in mind(!)  IMHO, all teachers should
  13. be made aware before they teach a single day that there is a "sociology
  14. of the classroom"; each teacher should strive, in whatever way suits her/his
  15. style, to develop a "class atmosphere" where excellent learning and excellent
  16. performance are the norms.  The students, when they enter the class, "are"
  17. independent variables, but they quickly become dependent - and the hope is
  18. that the teacher can direct this dependence toward high performance and lead
  19. it away from cynicism, discouragement, and apathy.
