- The idea is you're not supposed to get charged tax on food that you
- buy to take home and eat later (a "necessity"). However, hot sandwiches,
- carbonated drinks in open containers, etc. obviously aren't intended
- to be consumed that way. There are also a lot of weird exceptions
- for snack foods, leading to my local chocolate shop now calling its
- truffles "mousse balls" to avoid the tax. (Truffles are on a list
- of snack-taxed items). My feeling is, it is the CA legislature that
- eats moose balls...
