- I had such a problem with my 8 year old Sony Trinitron. In my case, the
- focus divider, a rather stressed part, had changed value. This allowed
- the CRT high voltage to rise excessively, which caused the HV
- overvoltage protection circuitry to shut down the set. Before I
- replaced this resistor, the set would work fine UNTIL the video faded
- to black between two scenes.
-
- In my case, the set's owner got a $180 repair estimate. She then
- bought a new set for $300 and gave me this one. The resistor was $50
- from Sony, service manual was $20, and it cost $25 to get the set away
- from the appliance store that had given the estimate.
