  20. MALNOURISHMENT
  21.  The UN Food and Agriculture Organization claims in a report
  22. released today that the proportion of malnourished in the world has
  23. dropped to 20% from 36% in 1971. This brings the number down from
  24. 941 million to 786 million people.

  26. For the first time, the estimations include the populations of
  27. China, North Korea and Vietnam. According to the report, this
  28. inclusion decisively changes the figures since the one billion
  29. Chinese are, the FAO says, relatively well nourished.

  31. But the FAO director general says he is still pre-occupied by the
  32. situation in Africa, which he categorized as "distressing." The
  33. number of malnourished went from 101 million to 168 million people.
