  28. lima, jul 17 (ips) -- the  'sendero luminoso' guerrilla group has
  29. renewed its offensive in lima, leaving 13 people dead and 100
  30. wounded in nine separate actions, including a car bomb attack.

  32. the car bomb, containing 150 kilogrammes of dynamite, was
  33. detonated on thursday night, just 40 minutes before the vehicular
  34. curfew went into effect.

  36. the explosion destroyed three apartment buildings and several
  37. businesses in the miraflores district.

  39. the car bombing was preceded by seven attacks with automatic
  40. arms and rockets against police barracks and businesses in
  41. various parts of this capital city.

  43. fourteen people, mainly policemen and area residents, were
  44. wounded in an attack against the police station of the city's el
  45. salvador district, which occured at 05:40 (local time) on friday
  46. morning, just 40 minutes after the curfew was lifted.

  48. the attack also damaged the building, which was still being
  49. rebuilt from a may bombing attack.

  51. the car bomb detonated in the miraflores district on thursday
  52. was the first such attack since the jun. 5 car bombing of tv
  53. station 'channel 2', which killed four civilians.

  55. the attack against channel 2 was the twelfth car bombing
  56. action by the guerrilla group, which usually chooses police and
  57. army installations as targets.

  59. the government imposed the partial curfew in may, when sendero
  60. luminoso initiated a new wave of attacks. the curfew prohibits
  61. all unauthorised vehicular traffic between 22:00 and 05:00.

  63. sendero luminoso began its civil war against the peruvian
  64. government in 1980.  originally based in the countryside, the
  65. guerrilla group has been operating increasingly in lima during
  66. the past two years. so far, the war has cost some 26,000 lives.

  68. nevertheless, peru's anti-insurgency police have made
  69. important gains, including the recent capture of a logistical
  70. base in central lima used for propaganda and the training of new
  71. recruits.

  74. channel 2 was the culmination of a military phase entitled
