  24. SUBJECT: CRISIS IN IRAQ

  26.         Apparently the French and the British will be 
  27. doing most of the bombarding of any Iraqi targets, 
  28. which is likely to save the Bush administration some 
  29. embarassment should it all come to that. During a 
  30. conversation with a journalist who covers the United 
  31. Nations, I also learned that Bhoutros Galli has 
  32. achieved a certain independence, which, from my 
  33. perspective, will be extremely helpful to the United 
  34. Nations movement.
  35.         I found this out, but I forgot to enquire how 
  36. important the US Navy battlegroup stationed in the 
  37. Mediterranean would be, or, for that matter, what sort 
  38. of targets the United Nations would select as 
  39. suitable. One must assume that weapons' producing 
  40. centres which were not completely demolished on the 
  41. last run, as well as others which we ignored until we 
  42. started looking at the paperwork - and of which we the 
  43. public have learned only of late - will provide 
  44. sufficient targets.
