- The Center for Public Integrity has published a
- decade-long study by Jacqueline Sharkey.
-
- Jacqueline E. sharkey is one of this country's
- preeminent international investigitavie journalists.
- During the past eight years, her investigative reporting
- from Central America has won several national awards,
- including an Overseas Press Club Citation for Excellence,
- a Society of Professional Journalists Distinguished
- Service Award, an Investifative Reporters and Editors
- Award, and the Sidney Hillman Foundation Award. Her
- articles on US policy in the revion, which appeared in
- common Cause Magazine, helped lay the foundation for an
- investigation of Col. Oliver North's private contra
- network by a Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee, and
- were used by investigators for the Iran-contra
- congressional committees. Sharkey, a University of Arizona
- journalism professor, is a former Washington Post copy
- editor, and was a Fulbright fellow in Colombia. She has
- B.A. and M.A. degrees in journalism from the University of
- Arizona, and a master's degree in the study of law from
- Yale Law School.
-
- Thirteen researchers are cited as having participated
- in the preparation of:
-
- UNDER FIRE - US Military Restrictions on the Media
- from Grenada to the Persian Gulf.

- I would have liked to exerpt portions of this study
- for the interest of participants in the network. However,
- discussions are presently under way for its' publication
- as a book. It has been observed that PeaceNet participants
- are a bit chintzy, and I would like to point out that if
- you order this publication - now! - from the Center for
- Public Integrity, you could probably do a better deal. Who
- knows, increased demand might even obtain a better
- royalties deal for Ms Sharkey. Wouldn't it be nice if the
- good guys started doing well?
-
- It contains information you need to have assimilated
- before we enter yet another Middle East crisis.
