- Police in India say they've arrested a Sikh terrorist wanted for
- a bomb attack against an Air India plane in 1985 which killed 329
- people. They say the suspect, identified as Nanjef Singh(?), had
- been trained in terrorist activities in Pakistan and he US.
-
- Singh was arrested July 17 at a Bombay train station. Police say he
- was forcibly prevented from swallowing a cyanide capsule at the
- time of his arrest.
-
- Indian newspaper reports say he was trained in a school for
- mercenaries in the US. An inquiry into the June 1985 aircraft crash
- found a bag belonging to him which was checked on board the Air
- India flight in Toronto. A bomb hidden in the bag exploded when the
- aircraft was over the coast of Ireland. The plane dropped into the
- Atlantic and all on board died. (R. Australia 7/18)
