- The Wall Street Journal carried a fairly lengthy story about then-VP
- Bush's activity against Coast Guard regulation which would have
- made necessary the use of only double-hulled oil tankers.
-
- While some small groups have sought to publicize this story for
- some time, the Wall Street Journal did its own investigation. The story
- ran in WSJ, July 20, on page A12 (after leader on front page).
- Headline:
- Bush Task Force in '81 Targeted Oil-Tanker Rule Affecting Firm That Was
- an Investment Partner
-
- The interesting twist, besides the fact that at least two of the tanker
- which would have been affected went on to be involved in two serious
- oil spills, is that the tanker corp. which most actively lobbied against
- the regulation, was one in which Bush had invested tens of thousands. I
- recommend the story. I looked for it in the New York Times today (July 21)
- but saw no mention of it. Surprise, surprise. Perhaps someone would
- type it in?
