- emacsclient is a program which works in conjunction with Emacs' server
- function, to make work in a multiple window environment easier. When
- server-start is called in Emacs, an inferior process is started which
- listens to calls from emacsclient. When emacsclient is started (instead of
- emacs), editing control switches to the Emacs window, instead of loading up
- a whole new copy of Emacs.
-
- A slightly easier way of looking at it is to imagine you have two windows
- on your monitor. The first window is a shell, the second is Emacs. If you
- type in your shell window "emacsclient .login," then the Emacs window will
- edit the file. When finished, typing C-x # will return control in the shell
- window to the shell.
