- I have a Sun 3/60 running Sun O/S 4.1.1. The machine has what appears
- to be the optional Color Graphics board (4 BNC connectors). Would this be a
- high-res monitor? How many different color options were available? do eeprom
- settings regarding monitor characteristics affect software behavior ?
-
- The problem appears to be with X11R4's X server on the color tube. I
- have several sun 3/60's with B&W that work perfect (all are being used merely
- for X, hard to figure :-) ). However, on the color sun refresh, does not work
- properly. That is, if any error messages, system messages, or echos are
- displayed while starting mwm, it is impossible to refresh the screen. I mean
- the screen gets a refresh but those messages remain, whereas they are normally
- erased. Not a big deal normally, but these messages seem to reside in the
- foreground on *top* of all windows.
-
- So I figured that there was a difference in the server... brilliant,
- no? The only obvious posibility that I saw was /usr/bin/X11/X which happens
- to be a link to either Xsun or Xsun.r3. I'm not sure of the difference
- between the two, but I had different results. I am a little X ignorant.
-
- when X --> Xsun, messages where placed near the bottom of the screen,
- but if X --> Xsun.r3, messages where placed starting near the middle left of
- the screen. This was the only noticable difference anyway.
-
- I have only one error being displayed. mwm complains:
- mwm: Invalid specification on line 7 of specification string
- But, I don't understand. I get the same message on the B&W, which
- works.
-
- so, do any of the wizards have any ideas ? I went through all the man
- pages, etc and could not buy a clue. mail appreciated: heas@chpc.org.
-
- thanks
