  19. There are two common reasons for this error.  One is that the directory
  20. isn't properly set up (mkfontdir or equivalent).  The other is that
  21. you've neglected to note that the path you provide must be valid in the
  22. *server*'s view of the filesystem.  Its validity from xset's point of
  23. view is completely irrelevant (though in some cases xset and the server
  24. will have the same point of view).

  27. in this case.  But you didn't describe enough of your setup for me to
  28. be certain.
