  14. I recently attempted to install X11R5p13 on my Sun 3/60 (SunOS 4.1.1). I
  15. was previously running X11R4 w/o porblems, but I cannot get X11R5 to
  16. even start. I am running a monocrome system through /dev/bw2. If I type:

  18.  % xinit ; kbd_mode -a
  19.  
  20. I get the following error:

  22. Fatal server bug!
  23. could not open default font 'fixed'
  24. X11: fatal IO error 32 (Broken pipe) on X server "(null)"
  25.      after 0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

  28. I have tried "xinit -fp /usr/lib/X11/fonts/misc". I started the
  29. fontserver and tried "xinit -fp tcp/gooter:7000". I reran mkfontdir in
  30. all of the font directories. I rebuilt the code from a fresh source
  31. tape. I scaned this news group and read the FAQ list. I get the same
  32. error every time. The only glimer of hope is "xinit -fn 6x13" gives the
  33. same error with 'fixed' replaced by '6x13'. The font server responds to
  34. fslsfonts so I know it can find the fonts.

  36. At this point I am stymied.  Please help.
