- I am posting for a friend without news access,
- so don't flame if this is a FAQ (please :->).
- Moreover, i don't have a precise idea of what i am
- speaking about, just reporting what he told me on the
- phone, so may be there is some basic misunderstanding
- of the matter.
-
- The question is: given a not better identified
- 386 EISA machine, he want to install a card made
- for an ISA bus, and run Unix Sco 3.2.2 (or 3.2.4)
- with the card driver added.
-
- The EISA machine don't have any 8 bit slot (for what he know),
- so he inserted the card (a X25 card) in the machine, installed
- the OS, installed the driver, and started.
-
- The behaviour that he get is that the machine boot properly,
- work for a while, and after a few minutes he
- get error messages from the card driver, and finally the whole
- system hung up.
-
- So the questions are:
- 1- Is he doing something basically wrong ?
- 2- What is the basic hardware compatibiltity
- between an EISA card and a ISA card ?
- 3- What are the problem connected to the OS
- and drivers in general between EISA and ISA bus machine ??
-
- Thanks for the help,
-
- Maurizio
