- Howdy y'all, I just got an account on an HP mini running UNIX. I don't know
- the first thing about how to use it, and I can't really bug the sysadmin
- because he was SO nice as to give me the account in the first place (I don't
- really deserve it) that I don't want to drive him up the wall.
-
- Before I plonk down $30 for a book that'll teach me what I need to know, I
- thought I'd look at the on-line help. ("man," right?)
-
- Trouble is, I don't think the computer knows what kind of terminal I'm using,
- because when I try to use man, it only gives me one line at a time (and the
- MORE prompt) instead of 66 lines or whatever would be a screenful. This is
- just super unuseful. When I log on it asks TERM something and I just don't
- know what to say :(
-
- SO could you please
-
- a) tell me if there's an interest-group for USERS who need help and can't/don't
- want to ask the sysadmin (probably not, eh?) (oh well, worth a shot)
-
- b) help me get started by solving the above-mentioned problem using "man."
-
- If anyone wants to offer to answer my baby questions, that would be mightily
- cool as well, but way above and beyond what I'm really asking here.
-
- Thanks!
