- I am desperately looking for some information about booting
- ULTRIX (4.1) on a workstation/vs2000 (client) from a MicroVAX
- II (server) running ULTRIX. The documentation is being held
- up by corporate and I would like to get started on this
- endeavor.
-
- Using the manual utility I have come across the DMS and RIS
- utilities but the entries are not complete. I know in a
- traditional UNIX environment BOOTP and TFTP protocols would
- be used to boot a client from a server but in the ULTRIX
- environment I imagine that is not possible because the
- TCP/UDP/IP protocol stack is not available in the boot PROM.
-
- If someone could first give me a high level overview of how
- satellite workstations are handled in an ULTRIX environment
- and possibly the procedures for adding a diskless client I
- would appreciate it. The high level might explain what
- protocols are used such as MOP and if the protocol is ever
- switched over to a TCP/IP protocol stack. The low level
- would possibly give the example commands to add a diskless or
- small disk workstations.

- I have been unable to get subscribed to this group so please
- send replies directory to BARNES@UMRGEC.EEC.UMR.EDU or
- 192.65.97.1.
-
- Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.
